Byron Bay - Hippie Town

Byron Bay was one of the places I was most interested in visiting. It is very much eco conscious, old timey hippie, but also overrun by regular tourists and hipsters. I still felt like I fitted right in - lots of people with dreads, alternative styles and following plant-based diets.

I finally managed to go whale watching and it was an amazing and memorable experience. There are no photos as I did not take my phone onto the boat, but we did get to see several humpback whales and loggerhead turtles.

Here are some impressions from the town instead...

The beach was small, but not too overrun...

On Sunday there was a wonderful market with music, clothes, crafts and lots of food (a lot of it vegan)...

I went on a lovely hike up to the lighthouse on Cape Byron. You could see dolphins and whales from up there. And a little wallaby up close...

And then there was the food - so much great food. I even found a buddy to cook with at the hostel. She was from Saxony...
